Your Spiritual GPS
One of the foundational truths of The Bible is: God loves you! Galatians 5:6 tells us that faith works through love.
When you know how much God loves you, it activates your faith!
God made your heart. Your heart responds the way it does for a reason. This does not mean you should accept depressing thoughts and emotions as being from God. Rather, recognize that negative emotions alarm us to the fact that we need to “make a U-turn” and seek the Lord. We must choose to focus on God’s great love instead of what’s wrong.
As Pastor has been teaching this month, you must also choose to not go around talking about your negative circumstances or feelings. Put a watch over your mouth! Be quick to speak God’s love and His Word over your life, not your anger, doubt, fears, etc.
God created you to trust Him – to be dependent on Him and embrace all that His great love has provided for you – in everything.
We are not supposed to take care of things ourselves (living independently from God) and then come to God only when things get bad. When you recognize this, you will see how God cares about every moment of your life – the “little stuff” as well as the “big stuff.” This will increase your faith, enabling you to rest in the Lord at all times. God’s love for you is the solution to every problem. Every negative thought or emotion. Every stressful situation, big or small. Bring it all to Him. Lay it all down at His feet and take up His everlasting love for you.
Develop a habit of running to God at the first sign of distress, knowing that He loves you with a love that is the greatest force in the universe. Acknowledge that nothing in the physical realm, the spiritual realm, in space, or in time is greater than God’s love and you will be able to rest in Him and be at peace no matter what is going on in your life.
When you trust that God loves you with “so great a love,” the moment you begin to feel unsettled in your thoughts or emotions, you will know that a lack of peace is merely a signal from your spiritual GPS telling you to turn back to God.
To paraphrase Jeremiah 6:16: Turn back to the eternal path (God’s way, the “good old way”), walk in it, and you will find rest for your soul.
Importance of Our Speech
Genesis 1:26-28 (KJV) And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness… So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them . . .
We have a divine image, one which corresponds to the original pattern of God. When you act like God – operate in His pattern by using your words to create good things – your life will be blessed. God uses His words to create, change, uphold, reveal, guide, and bless. We can also use our words to praise, encourage, direct, support, and uplift other people.
Hebrews 1:3 tells us that the entire universe was framed by the words of God! Because we were made in God’s image, our words are also powerful and creative. The same way God created the earth by His words, you create your world by your words.
Satan has recognized the power of man’s tongue and is constantly trying to get you to speak negatively – against what God’s Word says. But, praise God, The Holy Spirit will empower you to put a check on your tongue and train you to use it as God intended, to create and not to destroy.
James 3:6, 8 (NKJV) And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell …It is an unruly evil full of deadly poison.
Be aware that your tongue can be full of evil, set on fire by hell. When you align your tongue with Satan, it will corrupt your whole body and even the natural world around you. Refuse to speak fear, failure, and unbelief!
Satan is always trying to get you to speak worse than what you are actually experiencing (e.g. this always happens to me, I never get a break). Speaking such negative words will only make things worse, never better. When you realize that you can literally shape your future – that you can in fact change the world for good or for evil – with your words, you will watch what you say. You will choose to speak in the direction you want your life to go rather than just what you think you are seeing in the present.
Proverbs 18:21 (NLT) The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.
Many people love to speak out whatever pops into their head, not realizing that every word they say has consequences (that they will surely “eat the fruit of their tongue,” as another translation puts it). How would your speech change if you believed that everything you spoke would happen?
Romans 10:9-10 (WEB) That if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
The same way you receive salvation – by believing in your heart that you are righteous then confessing it with your mouth – is the same way you receive everything else from God. The word “confess” means to say the same thing as; to confirm; to agree with. Agreeing with and speaking out God’s Word is confirming God’s faithfulness. As you speak hope-filled words, counting God faithful, your faith will be fueled.
Choose to talk about the good ending that you desire, knowing that when you declare The Word of God over what you see, you will see things change!
