FEASTS = Firstfruits = New Beginnings

Today is a special day on God’s calendar—it marks the day, which God established, for New Beginnings! On this day . . .

1. Noah’s Ark came to rest on Mt. Ararat.

Genesis 8:4 (NIV) On the seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

This day marked a new beginning for the earth. Hundreds of years later, Israel would celebrate, on this day, “The Feast of Firstfruits.”

2. Moses parted the Red Sea.

The exodus of Egypt marks the very first “Passover Feast.”

Exodus 12:1-6 (NIV) The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt, “This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your year . . . . Take care of them [lambs] until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the members of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight.”

The nation of Israel then travels for three days and three nights. On the 17th day of Nisan—Moses parts the Red Sea.

3. Esther goes before the King.

Esther 3:12 (NIV) Then on the thirteenth day of the first month the royal secretaries were summoned.

Esther 4:16 (NIV) Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king.

Israel went from annihilation to blessed and highly favored in one day!

4. Israel entered the Promise Land and ate Firstfruits.

This marked a new beginning for the entire nation! Today is God’s day for new beginnings.

Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIRV) “Forget the things that happened in the past. Do not keep on thinking about them. I am about to do something new. It is beginning to happen even now. Don’t you see it? I am going to make a way for you to go through the desert. I will make streams of water in the dry and empty land.”

All of these things were types and shadows of Jesus.

5. Jesus rose from the grave!

2 Corinthians 5:17 (AMP) If any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!

During the Feast of Firstfruits they would present a wave offering to God.

Leviticus 23:13 (NLT) You must present a grain offering consisting of four quarts of choice flour moistened with olive oil. It will be a special gift, a pleasing aroma to the Lord. You must also offer one quart of wine as a liquid offering.

  • Flour mixed with oil = Unleavened bread—Christ’s body
  • Wine = the cup—Christ’s blood

James 1:18 (NIRV) God chose to give us new birth through the message of truth. He wanted us to be the first harvest [firstfruits] of his new creation. Firstfruits speaks of resurrection. Death could not hold Jesus. Nor can death hold Jesus’s firstfruits [us].
