Identity & Relationships Part 2

Identity & Relationships Part 2

How Identity Builds

Psalm 8:4-6 (GNT) What are human beings, that you think of them; mere mortals, that you care for them? Yet you made them inferior only to Yourself; you crowned them with glory and honor. You appointed them rulers over everything you made; you placed them over all creation.

God never intended for you to struggle or be defeated. He appointed you to rule and reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. You were created inferior ONLY to God HIMSELF!

Our self-image—or identity—forms self-imposed boundaries.

The way God changes our destiny is by altering our identity! God changed Abram’s name to Abraham. Abram meant, “(the) Exalted One is (my) father.” But, Abraham means, “the father of many nations.”

God said to Jacob, in Genesis 32:28, “Thy name shall be called no more Jacob (meaning one who deceives), I call you Israel (meaning one through whom God can prevail).” God did the same with Moses, Gideon, Peter, Paul, etc. He altered their destiny by changing their identity.

If you don’t see yourself the way God sees you, you will NOT fulfill the destiny God has for you.

Philemon 1:6 (DARBY) [Your] participation in the faith should become operative in the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in us towards Christ [Jesus].

James 1:23-25 (KJV) For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

John 15:7 (WUEST) If you maintain a living communion with me, and my words are at home in you, I command you to ask, at once, something for yourself, whatever your heart desires, and it will become yours.

The Armor of God protects you from the wrong mindset.

Ephesians 6:13-17 (NIV) Put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

  • Put on the belt of truth – What’s God’s Word say?
  • The breastplate of righteousness – I am right with God.
  • Shod your feet with peace – Let God’s peace guide you.
  • Take the shield of faith – Stop satan’s mental attacks.
  • Put on the helmet of salvation – I am redeemed!
  • Take up the sword of the spirit – Speak God’s Word.

Romans 12:2 (VOICE) Do not allow this world to mold you in its own image. Instead, be transformed from the inside out by renewing your mind.
