Real Christianity Part 1

Real Christianity Part 1

Connecting with God

I want to start this series with three “big” questions:

  • Am I experiencing what I should experience with God?
  • Are my prayers being answered?
  • Am I getting the results I should in my walk with God?

All these things find fulfillment in a relationship with God. Real Christianity is experiencing God, seeing answers to prayers, and getting results, but religion gets in the way.

Mark 7:7-8 (AMP) In vain (fruitlessly and without profit) do they worship Me, ordering and teaching [to be obeyed] as doctrines the commandments and precepts of men. You disregard and give up and ask to depart from you the commandment of God and cling to the tradition of men.

The Commandment of God:

Mark 12:30 (NIRV) Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your mind and with all your strength.

All of us have learned things about Christianity that is not necessarily “real” Christianity.

Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG) Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.

At the Fall of Adam mankind became flesh dominated instead of spirit-led.

Romans 8:14 (ERV) The true children of God are those who let God’s Spirit lead them.

How does the flesh dominate us?

1 John 2:16 (HCSB) For everything that belongs to the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride in one’s lifestyle—is not from the Father, but is from the world.

  • The lust of the flesh – If it feels good, do it!
  • The lust of the eyes – I see it, I like it, I want it, I got it.
  • Pride in one’s lifestyle – You are less than me.

Matthew 6:1-5 (LBP) It is good to put the disciplines of godly living into practice, but be on your guard against the temptation to start doing it for show . . . . If you give money for the relief of poverty, don’t go asking for public acknowledgement . . . . The same principle holds true when it comes to the inward disciplines such as prayer and fasting . . . . Take my advice: do your praying behind closed doors so that you won’t be tempted to start grandstanding. Find a place where you can take off your masks and just open yourselves to God in quietness. By getting yourself out of the spotlight, you’ll have a chance of becoming aware of God’s presence – a reward in itself!

  • Seek God – God, I want Your way.
  • Humble Yourself – God, I want Your will.
  • Engage Your Heart – God, I want Your work.

Confession: I am a spirit connected to God. I hear and experience God. I am not flesh dominated. I am spirit led.
