Real Christianity Part 3

Real Christianity Part 3

The Reason For Grace

In this series we are addressing three “big” questions:

  • Am I experiencing what I should experience with God?
  • Are my prayers being answered?
  • Am I getting the results I should in my walk with God?

Romans 8:14 (ERV) The true children of God are those who let God’s Spirit lead them.

GOD’S GOAL – Children

Ephesians 1:5 (ERV) Before the world was made, God decided to make us his own children through Jesus Christ. This was what God wanted, and it pleased him to do it.

Mark 12:30-31 (NIV) “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” The second is this: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” There is no commandment greater than these. God wants a family that loves each other.

MAN’S PROBLEM – Spiritual Death

1 John 3:14 (GW) We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love other believers. The person who doesn’t grow in love remains in death [separated].

GOD’S SOLUTION – Holy Spirit

Romans 5:5 (NLV) Hope never makes us ashamed because the love of God has come into our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who was given to us.

THE PROBLEM WITH THE LAW – No Divine Connection

Hebrews 7:18-19 (LDB) The former arrangement given by God to Moses has now been canceled, because it was weak, and actually useless. In fact, the Law of Moses never made anyone right with God. But now it has been replaced by a much better plan, a plan which gives us a deep assurance of an absolute and confident hope, by which we are able to come joyfully and humbly into the very presence of God.

The law could not produce God’s love in anyone.

Hebrews 7:19 (CW) . . . The law of ceremonies had no power to perfect our salvation but only to point to it.

The law simply reveals our need of God.

John 1:17 (AMP) The Law was given through Moses, grace (unearned, undeserved favor and spiritual blessing) and truth came through Jesus Christ.

THE NEED FOR GRACE – Removal of Fear

1 John 4:18 (NIV) There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

  • The law failed to perfect us because it produced fear.
  • God’s Spirit removes fear and perfects us through love.

Romans 8:1 (NKJV) There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

In order to learn how to walk in the Spirit, you need grace to fall. You’ll never walk on the water, until fear is removed.

Being spirit-led is vulnerable. It’s a different way to live. It takes some falling to figure it out! That is the reason for grace.
