Real Christianity Part 4

Learning to Walk

In this series we are addressing three “big” questions:

  • Am I experiencing what I should experience with God?
  • Are my prayers being answered?
  • Am I getting the results I should in my walk with God?

Romans 8:14 (ERV) The true children of God are those who let God’s Spirit lead them.

Being spirit-led is vulnerable. It’s a different way to live. It takes some falling to figure out! That is the reason for grace.

We will never identify the voice of God if we’re not spending time with God. The Bible reveals 4 life-giving habits that, when done correctly, help enter us into a vibrant relationship with God.

ESSENTIAL HABIT #1: BIBLE STUDY

James 1:25 (Phillips) The man who looks into the perfect mirror of God’s law, the law of liberty (or freedom), and makes a habit of so doing, is not the man who sees and forgets.

Bible study helps us identify the voice of God in our hearts.

Ask yourself, “God what are You saying to me today, personally, through Your Word?”

ESSENTIAL HABIT #2: PRAYER

Romans 12:12 (Phillips) Base your happiness on your hope in Christ. When trials come endure them patiently, steadfastly maintain the habit of prayer.

  • Prayer starts in the secret place (just you and God).
  • Prayer is comprised of both talking and listening.
  • Prayer shifts to an open dialog throughout our day.

So I’m looking for God’s peace. I’m sensitive to His direction.

Psalm 32:7-9 (NLT) You are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory. The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.”

ESSENTIAL HABIT #3: PRAISE AND WORSHIP

Psalm 64:9-10 (MSG) God’s work is the talk of the town. Be glad, good people . . . . Good-hearted people, make praise your habit.

The more we surrender our heart in praise and worship, the more tangible God’s presence becomes in our lives. Some experiences with God can only be had as we humble ourselves in praise and worship.

ESSENTIAL HABIT #4: GIVING OF OURSELVES

Galatians 5:13 (ISV) [You] were called to freedom. Only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity to gratify your flesh, but through love make it your habit to serve one another.

Some of your greatest encounters with hearing God’s voice will happen as you are ministering to another person.
