Real Christianity Part 6

How to Interpret God’s Voice

Romans 8:14 (ERV) The true children of God are those who let God’s Spirit lead them.

The Voice of the Spirit is an inner knowing or intuition. Our fear is that we will misinterpret what God is saying. What if I could help you wind up in the right place, even when you miss it?

There are five paths that can create within us a life compass; which will keep us on course, even when we miss it.

Psalm 119:15 (AMP) I will meditate on Your precepts and have respect to Your ways [the paths of life marked out by Your law].

PATH 1: God will always lead us in harmony with His Word.

1 John 5:7 (AMP) So there are three witnesses in heaven: the Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit, and these three are One.

Acts 4:31 (NIV) . . . And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

Question: What does God’s Word tell me to do concerning my situation?

God’s Word gives us the broad guidelines. God’s Spirit gives us the specifics. Understanding God’s Word enables us to correctly apply and interpret the specific details God gives.

PATH 2: God will always lead us in paths of righteousness.

Psalm 23:3 (NIV) [God] restores my soul. He guides [leads] me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Question: What would righteousness do in this situation? What is the right thing to do in this situation?

PATH 3: God will always lead us into mercy and love.

Psalm 25:10 (AMP) All the paths of the Lord are mercy and steadfast love . . . .

Question: What would mercy and love do in this situation?

You could hear the right things, but misapply them without the filters of mercy and love.

PATH 4: God will always lead us in harmony with Jesus’s finished work.

God’s voice will NEVER contradict or violate the cross, the blood, the resurrection, or the New Covenant.

1 John 5:8 (AMP) There are three witnesses on the earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree [are in unison; their testimony coincides].

Question: Is what I’m sensing in harmony with what Jesus has accomplished for me?

PATH 5: God will always lead us in paths of peace.

Luke 1:79 (NCV) It [the days of the Holy Spirit] will shine on those who live in darkness, in the shadow of death. It will guide us into the path of peace.

We are called to follow peace and to be peacemakers.

Question: Is there peace in my heart concerning this? Will it bring peace into my situation?
