Redeeming the Difficult

Redeeming the Difficult

REDEEMING THE DIFFICULT

2 Timothy 2:23-26 (NLT) Again I say, don’t get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights. A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people. Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will learn the truth. Then they will come to their senses and escape from the devil’s trap. For they have been held captive by him to do whatever he wants.

Satan is after our relationships. He wants to separate people from our light.

  • Stay out of arguments that only start fights.
  • Do not quarrel, instead be kind.
  • Gently and patiently instruct difficult people.

Why? Because when we speak the truth in love . . .

  • Their hearts can change.
  • They can learn the truth.
  • Come to their senses.
  • Escape the devil’s trap.

STEP 1: Realize that your fight is not with the person.

Ephesians 6:12 (KJV) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

. . . Our real struggle is not with persons, but with those invisible forces which shape life on earth. – JOHN

We are on a rescue mission! Some people make it easy, others are more difficult, but the mission is the same!

STEP 2: Realize that we all have been difficult at times.

Romans 3:23 (NIV) For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

We need to have grace for difficult people.

TYPES OF DIFFICULT PEOPLE
  • The Hypocrite: Blindly guilty of what they accuse others of.
  • The Bully: Makes you feel small in order to get their way.
  • The Gossip: Sow discord by rumors without checking facts.
  • The Cry Baby: People who pout to get control.

1 Corinthians 10:24 (NKJV) Let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being.

  • The hypocrite is blind is because Satan has blinded them.
  • The bully belittles because they feel small.
  • The gossip lies because they’re starving for attention.
  • The cry baby pouts because they feel powerless.

1 Peter 3:9 (NIV) Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

2 Corinthians 10:1-4 (NKJV) Now I, Paul, myself am pleading with you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ . . . . For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.

Jude 1:20-23 (TPT) Pray every moment in the Spirit. Fasten your hearts to the love of God and receive the mercy of our Lord Jesus . . . . Keep being compassionate to those who still have doubts, and snatch others out of the fire to save them. Be merciful over and over to them, but always couple your mercy with the fear of God. Be extremely careful to keep yourselves free from the pollutions of the flesh.

Step 3: The goal is not to win an argument. The goal is to win a soul!
