Psalm 112:6 (HCSB) The righteous man will be remembered forever.
Jesus Christ will be remembered forever. We celebrate His birth every Christmas Season. Why? His selflessness.
What will you be remembered for? In Heaven? On Earth?
Ephesians 4:1 (NIV) I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.
Sadly, Satan has people running after the wrong things.
WHAT MOTIVATES ME
- Physical needs. (food, water, shelter, etc.)
- Safety needs. (lock doors, stay in jobs, etc.)
- Love needs. (social needs, church, gang, etc.)
- Esteem needs. (need to be recognized/complimented.)
Luke 12:23, 28-31 (CW) Life is more than food and clothes . . . . Why do you have so little faith in God? Stop being so concerned about what to eat and drink. That’s what unbelievers worry about. You have a Father who loves you and knows what you need. Make His kingdom your first priority, and He will provide what you need.
- Cognitive needs. (need to understand)
- Aesthetic needs. (appreciate beauty/nature)
- Self-actualization. (know why you’re made)
- Transcendence. (living for something bigger than you)
Our greatest and deepest need is to look beyond ourselves and make a difference in someone’s life.
Ephesians 3:20 (MEV) Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly beyond all that we ask or imagine, according to the power that works in us.
LIVING BEYOND MYSELF
Proverbs 9:6 (MSG) Leave your impoverished confusion and live! Walk up the street to a life with meaning.
1. Love God passionately.
Acts 17:26-28 (NIV) From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. “For in him we live and move and have our being.”
Colossians 1:16 (MSG) For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible . . . everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him.
2. Serve others selflessly.
1 Timothy 6:18-19 (NIV) Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
Psalm 112:9 (NLT) They share freely and give generously to those in need. Their good deeds will be remembered forever. They will have influence and honor.
3. Live life intentionally.
Acts 13:36 (NIV) For when David [put your name there] had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep.
That should be our legacy! That we served God faithfully, lived life intentionally, and went on to be with the Lord.
