The Armor of God Part 1

The Armor of God Part 1

Ephesians 6:11-17 (NIV) Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes . . . that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

The Helmet of Salvation is to protect your thoughts. Satan is an accuser—casting a distorted image of God.

Genesis 3:1-5 (NIV) Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman . . . “God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Adam and Eve bought into the deception that God was withholding something good from them.

Romans 8:32 (NIV) He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

The thing responsible for withholding good in our lives is iniquity.

Job 31:33 (WEB) Like Adam I have covered my transgressions, by hiding my iniquity in my heart.

Iniquity is doubting God. It is the root of sin because iniquity causes us to build barriers of distrust against God. Taking matters into our own hands.

Acts 16:31 (NIV) Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.

People wonder, “How does faith save me? How does believing God fix man’s problem?” Because it was distrust that created man’s problem. God had to do something so undeniably selfless to show you that He is worthy of your trust.

Romans 5:8 (CSB) God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

There is a war raging—a battle over your trust! Life is what we had before we stopped trusting God. When sin entered this world it brought stress, fear, sickness, disease, poverty, lack, oppression, depression, and death.

John 3:16 (NIV) God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Life gets restored when we realize God is not withholding anything good from us.

Psalm 84:11 (TLB) God is our Light and our Protector. He gives us grace and glory. No good thing will he withhold from those who walk along his paths.

However, when we stop trusting we will walk our own path.

Proverbs 14:12 (NLT) There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.

1 Thessalonians 5:5-9 (NIV) You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness . . . . Since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
