The Armor of God Part 2

The Armor of God Part 2

Ephesians 6:11-17 (NIV) Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes . . . that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place.

The Breastplate of Righteousness is to protect your heart. Satan is a deceiver—casting a distorted image of self.

Genesis 3:1-5 (NIV) Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman . . . “God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Satan attacked both God’s identity and Eve’s identity!

  • God is withholding good from you.
  • You are not who God says you are.

God’s love pulls down barriers of distrust. God’s Spirit restores our sense of self.

Romans 8:15-16 (AMP) For [the Spirit which] you have now received [is] not a spirit of slavery to put you once more in bondage to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption [the Spirit producing sonship] in [the bliss of] which we cry, Abba (Father)! Father! The Spirit Himself [thus] testifies together with our own spirit, [assuring us] that we are children of God.

Genesis 3:7-10 (TLB) As they ate it, suddenly they became aware of their nakedness, and were embarrassed. So they strung fig leaves together to cover themselves around the hips. That evening they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden; and they hid themselves among the trees. The Lord God called to Adam, “Why are you hiding?” And Adam replied, “I heard you coming and didn’t want you to see me naked. So I hid.”

Adam didn’t become like God, he became ashamed, fearful, and embarrassed. His identity and self-worth were shaken.

1 Thessalonians 5:8 (NIV) Since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

Faith in God’s love restores our sense of righteousness. Righteousness means right standing with God. We didn’t earn this. Our works are not why God loves us.

Matthew 13:44 (AMP) The kingdom of heaven is like a [very precious] treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid again; then in his joy he goes and sells all he has and buys that field [securing the treasure for himself].

God treasures you!

Isaiah 43:4 (MGS) I am GOD, your personal God, The Holy of Israel, your Savior. I paid a huge price for you . . . That’s how much you mean to me! That’s how much I love you! I’d sell off the whole world to get you back, trade the creation just for you.

Ephesians 1:4 (MIRROR) Jesus is God’s mind made up about mankind! He always knew in his love that he would present us again face-to-face before him in blameless innocence. The implications of the fall are completely cancelled out . . . God found us in Christ before he lost us in Adam!

John 3:16 (BRANDT) God loves you. He has revealed that love in what He has done for you through Jesus Christ. You can never destroy God’s love, but you can resist it in carelessly ignoring His redeeming love or in your foolish efforts to be deserving of His love.

John 17:17 (KJV) Sanctify them through thy truth: thy Word is truth.

Locate the devil’s lies and replace them with God’s truth!

Psalm 100:5 (TLB) For the Lord is always good. He is always loving and kind, and his faithfulness goes on and on to each succeeding generation.

. . . His love is forever. We can trust him forever and ever! – ERV

Ephesians 2:4-7 (CEV) God was merciful! We were dead because of our sins, but God loved us so much he made us alive with Christ, and God’s gift of undeserved grace is what saves you. God raised us from death to life with Christ Jesus, and he has given us a place beside Christ in heaven. God did this so in the future world he could show how truly good and kind he is.

This world is fallen—so it deceives us about God’s love and kindness. We blame God for things that aren’t His doing. This removes our breastplate and allows pain into our heart.

Zephaniah 3:17 (TLB) “The Lord your God has arrived to live among you. He is a mighty Savior. He will give you the victory. He will rejoice over you in great gladness; he will love you and not accuse you.” Is that a joyous choir I hear? No, it is the Lord himself exulting over you in happy song.

. . . God will nourish you with love until the spring is back in your step. – LBP

God will not stop loving you until His identity and your identity are both restored. Then, He’s gonna love you some more—forever and ever.
