THE BIBLE IS ALIVE
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (MSG) Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.
In order to get to know God, you have to get to know your Bible.
John 1:1-5 (NIV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
For many the Bible seems hard to understand.
- Find a Bible translation that is easy for you to read.
- Look at the life of Jesus [Matthew, Mark, Luke, John].
1 John 1:1 (NLT) We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life.
John 6:63 (NIV) The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.
Hebrews 4:12 (NIV) For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Psalm 139:23-24 (NIV) Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Matthew 7:13-14 (NIV) Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life.
If you want the Bible to come alive, you have to mix it with faith.
Hebrews 4:2 (NIV) For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith.
You say, “That is my problem. I don’t have faith.” Yes, you do! Faith is simple:
- Accept the authority of God’s Word.
- Receive God’s Word with an open heart.
- Respond to God’s Word with obedience.
The Bible has transforming power
Joshua 1:7-8 (NIV) Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Matthew 7:24 (MSG) These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock.
John 8:31-32 (NIV) Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
2 Corinthians 3:18 (AMP) And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit.
